Losing weight can be such an uphill battle, and sometimes it seems like you will never reach your goals. At the beginning of a weight loss journey it is easy to be enthusiastic, but after a few days or weeks you can lose motivation. What things make it easy for some people to lose weight and keep it off? How do these people lose weight so successfully? What is the trick?


The first thing you need to do when embarking on a weight loss plan is to decide on your goals. Why do you want to lose weight, what do you hope to accomplish? Would you be happier if you were able to wear smaller clothes? Are you shooting for a specific weight? Or, is the reason you want to lose weight simply to have a healthier body?


Monitor and record your weight loss at weekly intervals. It’s a good idea to keep track of this in a weekly diary so you can compare from week to week. In another section of the same book, keep a journal of the food that you are eating. Keep a daily record of what you are eating, so you can see exactly what is going into your body. Having to get out your diary, find a pen, and write it down may make you less likely to want to eat a certain food items.


Being extremely hungry can throw your self control out the window. Keep healthy snacks with you at all times. Those fast food restaurants will be awfully tempting if you aren’t prepared with alternatives! Determine your menus ahead of time, and take brown bag lunches each day. That way, you will save money too.


A healthy diet and exercise plan are two integral parts of any weight loss strategy. Try to exercise 3 or 4 times a week, but be sure to allow a few days a week for your body to rest. If working out is boring to you, start taking fun things you already enjoy and see how you can mix a bit of exercise with it. If you have a love for dance, take a dance class to add spice to your workout.


If junk food is not handy, you will be far less likely to choose it. Ask yourself whether it makes more sense to try and keep it out of sight or to just not buy it in the first place. Once you fill your life with healthy food, you will find yourself eating it on a daily basis.


Have your friends help you achieve your goals for weight loss. While it remains up to you to keep up your motivation and plan for weight loss, other people can be a great support. Turning to others during minor setbacks or when you feel like quitting is a strength and can help you stick with your goals. When you do not have the motivation to keep going, you should call your support system and talk about it.
